Today I will try to do justice to sites dedicated to Dermatology. The first few cover a library of images and the remaining are sites dedicated to the field of Dermatology.
This is a site that should not be missed. The Dermatology Online Atlas is superb. Great pictures if you need to do presentations. Has excellent links.
Another lovely sites for images. Check out the links to Clinical Skin Diseases Images, DermPathTutor Dictionary, Introduction to Basic Dermatology and Dermatology Differential Diagnosis by Morphology.
Mainly dedicated to skin cancer. Great images. Check out the Dermatology Atlas.
I thought this latest article in BMJ should be included in this category.
There are probably other wonderful sites that I have missed. My coverage is probably only "skin deep". :)
CYBER-INTERVIEW - Prof.Dato Dr Anuar Zaini Md Zain
Prof.Dato Dr Anuar Zaini Md Zain graduated with MBBS from University of Malaya in May 1973, and in Feb 1978 conferred Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom (MRCP(UK)).In July 1993 became the Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP (EDIN)) and January 1995 Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians(FRACP).
He is currently the Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Prof. Dato Dr Anuar Zaini serves on numerous Faculty and University Committees as well as numerous professional bodies and societies. His main area of research covers Diabetes, Thyroid Disorders, Obesity and Growth Hormone Deficiency.
With this brief introduction, we go on to our cyber-interview.
1). How and when did you come to know about the Internet? How did you learn the ropes in using it?
Early 1995 but cannot remember the exact month though. Self-directed learning and interaction with colleagues within the faculty.
2). What do you use the Internet for mainly? Email? Chat?
E-mail mainly. No time to do chitchats. Cyber-search for information on diabetes and endocrine disorders. Lately, used it for health economics, health funding and case-mix.
3). Has the Internet helped you in your work? Do you think it has all the resources you need?
Yes. However, because of the limited time I have during office hours, the full advantage of the system may not be appreciated. Need to be more innovative in this aspect. May require a powerful palmtop or the like of that to carry around and clip-on to the network at any location within the medical complex and be able to communicate with my 2 offices (faculty & hospital) or any other sites directly / simultaneously while chairing or attending meetings. I hate carrying files around and they can be messy.
4. Do you think familiarisation/using Internet should be taught or encouraged in the University?
Oh yes, especially to oldies! UM have started doing this to all staff, in fact all academics are required to undergo training in multimedia applications - obvious benefits to teaching research and documentation's. It is going to be pre-requisite for staff development and promotion.
5. What role will U.Malaya play in the MSC.?
I think UM is offering itself as a training center, test-site for certain applications and may also be involved in partnership with other MSC users. I cannot answer this accurately. However, UMMC has offered itself as a good test-site for some of the health related softwares. At the same time we are preparing CME packages (content providing) that can be bought and used by any MSC warehouse.
6.What is your vision for U.M/U.Hosp. in IT?
By the end of this year we will have the latest IT management systems from HIS, LIS, Accounting & Billing systems (PBMS) to Blood-Banking, Pharmacy and Inventory. We hope to be efficient and paper-less.
7. Do you have a web site? If no, do you plan to start one?
No, and not in the near future. I will not be able to manage it effectively.
8. What are your favourite sites and why?
None in particular but Medline (diabetes & endocrine disorders), Hotline, Webcrawler, Geocities, etc.
9. Are you married? Any children? Are they on the Net?
Yes, Two. Yes, my daughter!
